Witches’ Brews, Cocktails, & Mocktails

Witches’ Brews, Cocktails, & Mocktails

What’s spooky season without some great treats to go with it? One of my favorite ways to celebrate any season is to create unique cocktails and mocktails in my kitchen! Here are three witches’ brews to try out for this Samhain!

Spooky, Spiked Lemonade

This cocktail is so much fun! You’ll need Sparkling Lemonade, Blue Curacao, and Empress 1908 Indigo Gin for the cool colors. Empress Gin is a gorgeous purple hue, so if you’re into gin, be sure to try it.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • 1 oz. Empress 1908 Indigo Gin
  • 1 oz. sparkling lemonade
  • ½ oz. Blue Curacao
  • 1 fresh rosemary sprig

Directions

  1. Fill a glass with ice. Add gin and then lemonade.
  2. Using a spoon rested on the edge of the glass, very slowly pour the Curacao into the glass, allowing it to settle on the bottom.
  3. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.

The Witchy Elements

  • Lemon – Love, purification, banishing negativity
  • Rosemary – Purification, attracting love, protection

Make it a Mocktail

If you don’t drink alcohol, try adding butterfly pea flower powder to your sparkling lemonade. It goes in blue, but when butterfly pea flower encounters an acid, it turns magenta! Switch the rosemary for fresh mint for a refreshing, festive beverage.

Tip: When using fresh mint in a drink, slap the leaves against your hand a couple of times to release the oils!

“Bloody” Orange Spritzer

This is a delicious mocktail recipe for all ages! The garnishes really elevate it, and it feels fancy without the buzz.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • 3 oz. blood orange juice
  • 2 oz. ginger beer (this is non-alcoholic)
  • ½ oz. fresh lemon juice
  • Sliced blood orange
  • Sliced ginger
  • Fresh mint

Directions

  1. Add a tall glass or large wine glass with ice.
  2. Add blood orange juice, ginger beer, and lemon juice and stir gently.
  3. Garnish with a slice of blood orange, ginger, and mint (remember to slap that mint first!)

The Witchy Elements

  • Blood orange – Inspiration, joy, creativity, imagination
  • Ginger – Speeding things up, passion, love, success
  • Lemon - Love, purification, banishing negativity
  • Mint – Attract love, luck, wealth

Black As Midnight Margaritas

Upgrade your margaritas with a little witchy flair with this recipe! No middle-of-the-night drinking required, but I won’t tell you what to do!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp black sanding sugar
  • 2 Cups ice
  • 4 oz. silver tequila
  • 2 oz. triple sec
  • ½ Cup lime juice
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Green food coloring
  • Lime slices
  • Ice

Directions

  • Rim two glasses with a lime slice and dip the rim in the sanding sugar. If you prefer salt, some culinary black salt (made with coconut shell ash) is a great alternative.
  • Divide tequila, triple sec, and lime juice between two glasses. Stir to combine
  • Add drops of food coloring until your desired black color is reached.
  • Add ice and garnish with a lime!

The Witchy Elements

  • Sugar – Attraction, sweetens relationships, invites comfort and love
  • Lime – Purification, cleansing, energy boost
