The Magick of Water & Ritual Baths
There’s something so magickal about the element of water. It flows, cleanses, and washes away what does not serve us. Just like fire, it can create and destroy. And if you’ve ever surrendered to the waves at a beach, you know how powerful it can be. Humans have been tapping into the power of water for centuries, whether as witches using it for cleansing or Eastern medicine practitioners who call on water’s healing powers in a more clinical setting today. Let’s explore the magick of water!
Healing Power of Water
Ancient Egyptians and Greeks practiced bath rituals to help treat physical injuries and pain. Many Native American tribes believe that sweat lodges offer purification as the water within the body exits through the skin during rituals. Today, hydrotherapy is a useful treatment for injuries and mental health issues.
Even recovery therapists recommend that people in substance recovery enjoy “blue spaces,” where water flows freely—whether it’s the ocean, a lake, or a river.
No matter what state you arrive at the water in, its flow helps calm the body and release stress. It’s also a beautiful source of inspiration, reminding us of how we fit into the natural world and how the Earth cares for us.
Magickal Baths
Taking a bath is a beautiful way to immerse yourself in the healing embrace of water without leaving your home. Tap into your intuition and select bath salts, herbs, flowers, or crystals for your intention. I also suggest having a water bottle close by to ensure you’re hydrated on the inside, especially if you like a super-hot bath!
The mini version of a magickal bath is a ritual handwashing practice. Wash your hands before rituals, healing sessions, or spell crafting using Florida Water soap or a handcrafted bar of soap. This will wash any stagnant energy from your hands and the chakras in your palms in preparation for the upcoming work.
Rituals for Showers
You can still take ritual showers if you don’t have a bathtub! In fact, ritual showers are perfect for before a spell or to release trapped energy from your body. You can literally wash the bad vibes down the drain! A few drops of your favorite essential oils in a nearby diffuser or in the corner of your shower will transform it from mundane to magickal. Hang a bundle of eucalyptus from your showerhead for stress relief and to help bring peace and calm to your experience.
A shower wash is also a great way to cleanse your body magickally. Mix your ingredients and pour the wash over your body to cleanse yourself and your aura of negativity. Shower washes should never be used in a bath where you might sit in the salt, herbs, or oils for any extended period, so save them for your showers!
Steam Rooms and Magick
Sitting in a steam room at your gym is another way to capitalize on water’s healing properties. A steam room can help you release physical ailments, like pain or allergies, but it can also help you release negative energy and recenter yourself. Before stepping inside, set your intention for what you want to release. Then, enter the steam room as usual, and once you’re seated, close your eyes and meditate on your intention. Visualize the negativity leaving your body and space as the steam moves around you.
Stay Magickal,
