How to Create Moon Water

How to Create Moon Water

One of the easiest ways to bring the magick of the moon into your practice is by creating and using moon water. The moon is just one of the two luminaries in our Solar System that sheds light on parts of our lives. Each full moon brings its own energy to the work based on its placement in the sky. When the moon is full, it’s at its brightest, most powerful phase in its cycle, illuminating our world with its power.

Moon water is quite simple to make, too. All you need is some water and a lidded container. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Research the Current Moon Cycle Before Making Moon Water

This one’s pretty easy, thanks to our monthly Full Moon blogs here on The Inked Grimoire Blog. It’s important to understand which powers and energies are most prevalent at the full moon you intend to create water on – because it’ll work best in spells for those energies.

This is not to say that moon water created on a full moon focused on intellect won’t work well when you’re trying to manifest a new home. It’ll just work better for intentions and spells related to that intellectual energy.

Step 2: Cleanse Your Container for Moon Water

A simple recycled jelly jar, spice jar, or wine bottle is perfect for moon water. Just make sure you have a lid to keep critters and bugs out. It’s important to cleanse your container and lid before adding water. You can do this very easily with smoke, salt, or sound. Once you’ve cleansed everything, you can move on to the next step.

Step 3: Add Water

You can get fancy with this and use distilled water, but tap water works just fine for busy witches like you and me. Fill your container and close it with the lid.

Step 4: Bless the Water

I like to bless the water before setting it outside under the moonlight. Place it on your altar or hold it between your hands and speak your intention or spell over it. Consider what you want to manifest with the water.

If you want to manifest several different uses or intentions for your moon water, it's best to create a different water for each. Be sure to label them!

Step 5: Set Up Your Space

Whether you place your moon water on your windowsill or outside in your garden, add items and gemstones around the moon water to help infuse it with even more magick. Rose Quartz for love, Selenite for extra moon magick, or Citrine for prosperity are just a few ideas.

Step 6: Let the Water Absorb the Moon’s Energies

Leave the container out overnight to absorb the energies of the full moon. Again, it doesn’t matter if it’s on your windowsill or in the middle of your backyard in full moonlight. The intentions and energies are the same.

How to Use Moon Water

If you’ve closed your moon water with a properly fitting lid, you can add it to almost everything. Here are some ideas:

  • Add it to your water bottle the next day and drink it.
  • Cook with it.
  • Brew tea with it.
  • Add it to bath water for a Full Moon ritual.
  • Add it to a spray bottle with essential oils for a cleansing spray.
  • Give it as an offering to your deities.
  • Add herbs to it to create a door wash.
  • Place it in a diffuser with essential oils.
  • Use it to cleanse your altar or sacred space.

Happy Moon Water making!
